Bundle Dye Workshop with Mikaela of Feather Me Orange, must reserve your spot!
Learn about the wonderful art of natural dyeing in this WINE & DYE bundle dyeing workshop! In this 2.5hrs workshop, led by Mikaela of Feather Me Orange, you will gain an understanding of and learn to use various natural dyestuffs to prepare and create your very own bundle dyed silk bandana. Come explore and experiment with the art of bundle dyeing.
PLUS As your silks take their steam bath, Good News Wine will serve you two half glasses of different sparkling wines for you to sip. Bennett, of Good News Wine, will be on hand to tell you a little bit about them and answer any wine questions that arise. FUN!
This workshop will cover:
Introduction to natural dye plants, mordants & color/dye modifiers & the use of them in the technique of bundle dyeing (mordanting process will not take place in this class, Mikaela will have already prepared your silks).
A brief history of natural dyeing and dye stuffs around the world.
Introduction to protein & cellulose based fibers, we will be using protein based fibers in this workshop.
Overview of natural dyestuffs used in bundle dyeing. Examples: onions skins, marigolds, cochineal, log wood etc…
How to bundle dye on silk & a resources list to get you started at home!
Each student will leave with one silk satin 35’ x 35’ bandana/scarf.
Class fee includes two half glasses of sparkling wines from Good News, instruction & all the necessary supplies & materials (including dyestuffs and fabrics). No prior experience necessary - beginners welcome!
Please bring your own mask (cloth or otherwise), rubber or latex gloves (optional), notebook and a writing utensil (for note taking).
